This weekly session will provide you with the confidence and skills in painting from the human form and carrying out observational paint studies in general.
You will learn about shape, form and structure working directly from the model. You will develop confidence in colour mixing, colour relationships and tone and will explore different methods of applying paint to describe the body.

Payments should be made directly to the tutor each session.
Realism and Representation
6 weeks, Wednesday Evenings

This course is designed to teach Realist techniques in painting and drawing. It focuses on capturing literal realistic representation within artworks.
Over the 6 weeks you will develop a range of skills and techniques to capture what you observe. You will use a variety of materials and gain confidence in selecting and applying media to explore your ideas effectively.
Introduction to Painting & Art History
6 weeks, Wednesday daytimes

This 6 week daytime course will introduce you to different painting media, new ways of looking, a glimpse into contemporary art history related to practical work.
There will be lots of possibilities for developing your own ideas, a lot of serious play and fun, as well as the opportunity for discussion about your own work and the work of others and give you a broader understanding of how artists work.
Both beginners and students with some prior knowledge of painting are welcome.
The course will be as follows:-
WEEK 1 Expressive Portraits. Looking at the German Expressionists and Debuffet. Creating a small series of portraits in different media.
WEEK 2 A New Reality. Drawing from a still life group adopting a Cubist method, working in the round and producing a multi - viewpoint drawing. A brief look at Cubism.
WEEK 3 Developing the Cubist drawings into paintings. Discussing further ideas for development.
WEEK 4 A brief look at 2 types of Surrealism, using collage and strange juxtapositions, and automatic responses.
WEEK 5 Abstract Expressionism. Floor paintings based around Jackson Pollock’s work.
WEEK 6 Letters and Numbers. Paintings based around Jasper John’s series of works 0 - 9 (zero through 9).
